Deakin University vice-chancellor Iain Martin said the closure of Australia’s borders and the trajectory of the vaccine rollout meant overseas student numbers would probably “bottom out” in 2022-23 before recovering. Speaking on a Committee for Economic Development of Australia panel featuring five of Victoria’s university vice-chancellors, Professor Martin lamented the continuing failure of state and federal governments to articulate a plan for their return, arguing it was driving would-be students to rival markets.
adamlcarey Damn good reason for the govt to properly fund all our public schools from pre-school to university to research.. So why didnt the feds help out?
adamlcarey Instead of cutting research, cut the useless arts degrees. I mean they all turn out to be primary school teachers, administration monkeys, politicians or on the dole.
adamlcarey Great News.
adamlcarey I doubt it will ever recover. I don't think a certain country will want their students coming here. The universities done it to themselves.
adamlcarey Too many eggs in one basket...?
adamlcarey Maybe this will lead to a reevaluation of the uni sector. It’s not a business. The aim is to develop students: intellectually, socially, emotionally, spiritually, ethically, physically, aesthetically. If you get reasonable development in all these areas you’ll have good citizens.
adamlcarey Hopefully, the research is fully funded by government and not reliant on international student revenue.
adamlcarey Greedy unis getting their comeuppance.
adamlcarey 😳
adamlcarey Just shows how foolish the University boards and VC’s on highly inflated salaries were in building a business model based on overseas students.
adamlcarey 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. BEST NEWS EVER!!! WHAT WILL THESE WOKE, LEFT WING , FAKE RESIDENT MANUFACTURING INSTITUTIONS OF CORRUPTION AND LIES DO? sackemall
adamlcarey Suck eggs, fools.
