Federal Education Minister Alan Tudge has reprimanded universities for not getting enough students back on campus even though theatres and sports stadiums have opened their doors, and says he wants to see a return to face-to-face lectures.
“In my mind, that’s not good enough,” he said. “I’d like to see progress happening faster. We do want students to have the full, rich university experience, and that means the proper contact hours in a COVID-safe manner, certainly for the tutorials, but increasingly for the lectures as well.”A nearly empty University of Sydney in June 2020.“For once, I may actually agree with the education minister,” said Sydney University’s Student Representative Council president, Swapnik Sanagavarapu.
In a recent survey, “71 per cent of our domestic students reported that they are currently studying on campus as much as they can and 29 per cent report studying remotely,” she said. “We can’t wait until we’re able to welcome all our students back to campus.” “And there’s good plans being developed by NSW, by Victoria, by South Australia, and we’re working through those,” he said.
JordsBaker Teaching both remote and in person concurrently is ineffective. They need to try hang onto their international students who are currently paying more for less. Unless the government is going to increase funding what can they do?
JordsBaker Not all Unis. Most of our teaching is on campus. But where are the students? Works both ways.
JordsBaker Yes. Stuff the universities financially. And then blame them.
JordsBaker Yes true everything is open domestic student going in once a week max everything is online it is ridiculous!! Universities priority is domestic or international students?
JordsBaker Says the Education minister of a party that has desimated the domestic student market and forced the universities to rely on international students.
JordsBaker Bingo. Eldest son hasn’t been back to university in 2021. Lazy culture which is failing its duty of creating a life defining experience.
JordsBaker Paw patrol concert was on at the weekend. 2000 people sitting next to each other, inside. But, CaNt HaVe Uni StuDenTs In ClASs because of the CoRONavIRUS... and these idiots want more money because they can’t adapt their business model because of international students...
JordsBaker He’s right. The universities are using it as an excuse to cut costs / reduce staff.
JordsBaker Weak party's breed weak leadership breeds weak politics during a pandemic .
