Over the weekend I witnessed something I’ve barely seen on the streets of Washington DC in a year: the smiles of strangers.
That’s now rapidly changing thanks to new federal government guidelines. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention , Americans are not required to wear masks either indoors or outdoors if they are fully vaccinated - except for rare circumstances like being on a bus or plane. While President Joe Biden hailed the surprise announcement on Friday as “a great day for America”, some fear the CDC has acted too quickly. Most business owners have no desire to police which customers are and aren’t vaccinated, meaning an end to mask rules for the vaccinated will apply equally to those who haven’t had the jab. Some parents are concerned about how the new rules will affect children who are not yet eligible for the vaccine.
In an interview with National Public Radio following the announcement, CDC head Rochelle Walensky said the decision was driven by “emerging data that has demonstrated that if you are vaccinated, you generally don’t get asymptomatic infection and generally cannot transmit to other people”.

KnottMatthew Great article which demonstrates the effectiveness of the vaccines. Mind boggling that this has got lost here over recent months.
KnottMatthew You will never find a vaccine 100 percent effective. Australians need to vaccinate and live. Please. The world loves you.
KnottMatthew Get real I've never worn a mask yet in Australia. The vaccines won't eradicate covid.
