The school also wants to stop members of the public from coming into classrooms 'looking for directions to somewhere in the town'

The board of management at a Longford primary school have lodged an application to provide more security for staff and students.

The all-boys DEIS school situated on St Mel's Road in the midlands town was recently allocated funding by the Department of Education for "additional accommodation" to cater for its 235 students.All classrooms lead out on to schoolyard which the members say allows "any member of the public to freely enter, unseen, any classroom at any stage during the school day".

The board also voices safety concerns not only about people entering the school, but also students leaving.
