Vivian Cunningham, a great-grandmother of three, earned her undergraduate degree in liberal studies at Alabama's Samford University at 78 years old.

"My friends have called and told me that it has motivated them," she said."And some of the young ones in my family, too. They said if I can do it, they can do it."

It was a proud day for the great-grandmother of three after six years of pursuing her degree at Samford."I felt like I wanted to quit at times, but they were behind me 100%," she said."They kept pushing me." She also has motivated her daughter to pursue her PhD at North Carolina A&T after she earned an undergraduate degree at Averett University and a master's degree at Webster University. Tarra's son, Jordan, is also now in a master's degree program at the University of Miami after graduating from Old Dominion University.Cunningham spent 29 years working as a custodian and then as the head of the mailroom for the Alabama Power Company before retiring in 1992.
