A COVID-19 vaccine likely won't be a requirement to return to the physical classroom at some universities in September, with several large schools saying they have no intention of mandating proof of immunization for students.

Though some schools remain undecided, the decisions from the University of British Columbia, University of Alberta and McGill University come as governments around the world work out how to handle so-called vaccine passports.

Though the faculty association doesn't have a concrete take on the issue, a spokeswoman for McGill said the school is planning for several scenarios, but anticipates that everyone at high-risk for COVID-19 will be vaccinated before fall. Dozens of universities in the United States have opted to require proof of vaccination, including Rutgers, Brown, Cornell and Northeastern.

"Systemic racism may influence choices of service providers and others about who to demand 'proof' from, and who to deny access, particularly in the absence of a strict legal regime governing their use," the CCLA said in an online FAQ on the issue. Some schools are pointing to government guidance in saying they don't plan on requiring proof of vaccination, including the University of British Columbia.

"At this point, because the university doesn't have a set plan for return to campus, we don't have a stance yet," she said.

Which ones? 'Superspreader University' 'Covid College' 'Infectious Institute Of Infections'

Stupid. Universities should be requiring proof of all vaccinations, including Covid, flu and MMR etc..

Our local university was a source of huge outbreaks. My nephew's uni in AZ insisted on covid testing and then hosted vaccinations once they were available. Safety standards need to be high in these congregate living spaces.

Forcing vaccines that are under E.U.A. Is like forcing child seats that haven’t went through all the proper testing with the stamp of approval. These vaccines do not have the stamp of approval. Hence the. E.U.A.

Not a great decision! Students tend to not eat healthy foods, lack sleep and are vulnerable to illness in general! Those WITHOUT the vaccine may exercise their right to an education…from home.

Heh...places of knowlegde but not necessarily wisdom...

WakeUpCanada

All about money...never mind student and faculty (including support workers) safety....

This government is getting scary with their ideas seriously people need to wake up to this. One day your life the way up knew it could be gone. Most people just sit there and read about it and do nothing.

So many cowards. This ain't going away. Its here. Protect the vulnerable. Get the fck outta the way.

And so they should. Do you want to live under a 24/7 tracking system? Cuz that's where this is headed if we let it

Hmm?..could be legal issues as rule based system..can't discriminate...then no vaccines does not means 'contaminated'...if contaminated, health rules can permit isolation...otherwise probably not....just a thought

Pity, in the next 18 months I will have two university age kids.

Do they still require physicals and proof of other vaccinations?
