By training, to decide important issues I prefer unbiased fact finding to surveys of opinion. In two weeks I will have been practising law for 50 years. During that time I have prosecuted and defended criminal cases, served on the National Parole Board and been a founding director of the Justice Institute of B.C. I have also “refereed” hostage-takings and riots in prisons and litigated cases on prison conditions. I have seen a lot of troubled kids who ended up in prison.
The school liaison officers, to my personal knowledge, have also played an important role in being a recourse to which students, parents and school officials can turn to address bullying. They are also a valuable resource to recognize and defuse the potential for violence between groups of students, of which we have had seen several deadly examples in our community in recent weeks.
It is recognized that schools, as part of a “whole community approach” play a vital role in addressing these problems. The “whole community” includes the crime and social problems of the community, matters about which police have in-depth knowledge that other resources do not. The role of the police in recognizing and responding to these problems cannot be replaced by hiring another counsellor.
kbolan Not smart. Schools and kids need laision officers! With the amount of bullying and gang violence, you'd think they would keep it & have more officers. They always take away fro education and student support, always!
kbolan If kids and parents don't want police in schools they shouldn't be in schools simple as
It is not a well thought out plan of action.
