The Herald's View: There is much ground to be made up in Australian schools in learning about the full gamut of our past. We must be better informed about all sides of our history

The “history wars” were re-ignited last week when the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority released its draft review of the national education curriculum for public consultation.

treatment … so that regardless of how much content is left in the curriculum, it is properly organised, logical in its presentation and sequence, coherent, clear and easily accessible”. This has clearly rattled some in the sector, who, broadly, argue that prioritising First Nations issues and content should not come at the expense of studying Western civilisation.that the proposed revisions are an attempt to “decolonise the curriculum by removing or ignoring the debt owed to Western civilisation”.

Better engaging First Nations students through content that actually reflects their culture – or, as ACARA puts it, gives them “the ability to see themselves, their identities and cultures reflected in the curriculum” – could only be a positive step. So, too, is giving all students an opportunity to learn from what ACARA recognises as “the world’s oldest continuous living culture”.

Especially the liberal national party side of history.

Really, there should be alternatives for assessment. We should teach a range of content but allow and expect students to choose from topics that most resonate. Teachers should mark engagement and reflection, not tick a box content rephrasing

Politicians need to get the hell out of education. They are why 'standards are declining' auspol Teachers

Sounds like another way of saying no to Aboriginal history in favour of christianity.

Like most students I gave up history really early. You can't live in the past. You will live in the future.

Sure and will they also mention the inter tribal genocides that went on long after colonization? Such as the Warroween Massacre in what is now Brighton in Melbourne in 1836. And how colonial policing and justice reduced violence and the abduction of girls for forced marriages.

Trudge and all of the Liberals don’t know their arse from their elbow. Our very own Betsy deVos. Just a clanging gong.

Follow nature. Teach truth. Nurture creativity. HarmonyEducation

They do not want to admit the truth, that the place was invaded, because they have guilt trips? Why do they feel guilt? They were not alive Sounds like they have some regressive identity issues.
