The national school curriculum is set for a shakeup aimed at improving a decline in student performance with the revisions to be published today.

After a 12 month review the study of humanities will be scaled back with a stronger focus on Indigenous histories, culture and perspectives.

In a push to have knowledge applied to real world situations maths will shift towards problem solving, and science to inquiry learning. Overall content has already been reduced by about 20 per cent to tackle overcrowding.
