At these colleges, however, the size of the financial aid package is based on financial need.To negotiate based on financial need, you need to demonstrate that your financial need is greater than what is reflected in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid , CSS Profile or other financial aid application forms.
Thus, negotiating a better financial aid offer is based on providing documentation of differences, such as changes in income from the prior-prior year to the present or differences between your family’s financial circumstances and those of the typical family. These are known as “special circumstances.”
