School staff have been giving clothing, food and furnishings to families struggling financially in pandemic, teachers say

School staff have been giving clothing, food and furnishings to families that have been struggling financially in the coronavirus pandemic, teachers say.

Asked about the poverty they had witnessed, one union member said: "We have children that aren't clothed properly, without coats in winter, or have holes in shoes, and my school's inclusion team are excellent at working with the families to get them the support they need quickly and efficiently.'Worsening child poverty harms learning'

Another responded: "We have had pupils and their families move into hostels during the pandemic when they were evicted. "There is no doubt, too, that schools and colleges have been going beyond the call of duty for them during this past year, as they always do. As part of the recovery package, this year summer schools will be introduced for pupils who need it most, and tutoring schemes will be expanded.

And the DWP have had to employ thousands of temporary staff to deal with the increase in claims being made.

Just shows some have been paid for doing nothing as the next headline will be the non-educated kids; need free school meals cos not at school. (Which should be a parent responsibility).

No need for a payrise then, if they all have surplus cash.

Whereas these Tories pilfer our tax and begrudge these children food. We re ruled by the vilest group of corrupt authoritarian people

To be fair, this is nothing new. In my school in the 50s there were very poor kids. I remember one boy coming to school wrapped in just a blanket fixed with a safety pin. Other parents would donate clothes for them, even though they did not have much themselves.

Government is screwing people in the name 'pandemic'. Oh Gosh.

Bet you the parents still have their fags, booze and contract smart phones though. priorities
