For months the government failed to plan ahead and now children and their families are paying the price

Many families have to scramble to hire caregivers, book time off work, arrange for family members to watch their children or procure the necessary electronic devices to ensure their kids can continue their studies remotely. Eighteen hours notice is simply not enough — a fact that everyone seems to acknowledge, but has little bearing on actual government decisions.Article content

There’s no doubt that the coronavirus is spreading unchecked in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario. The province has been reporting around 3,000 cases a day since Friday, with nearly one-third of them coming from Toronto. Variants of concern now make up the majority of new cases. As of Tuesday, the province had 510 COVID patients in intensive care units, the highest since the pandemic started.

The same thing happened over the Christmas break. On the last day of classes, students were told to take all their supplies home in case schools switched to online learning. It wasn’t until everyone was on holidays that the province announced schools would go virtual after the break.Article content
