Image: Steven Holl Architects: UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN has received planning approval for works which will facilitate a major expansion of its Belfield campus, including a €48m “tilting towers” landmark building at its main entrance on the N11.

Planning permission had already been approved by the council for a new UCD centre for creativity to be located at the university’s main entrance as well as another large building – the centre for future learning. An Bord Pleanála said the proposed enabling works were an appropriate form of development in the context of UCD’s Strategic Campus Development Plan 2016-2026 as well as being acceptable in terms of pedestrian and traffic safety and not having a significant impact on the local environment.

Daniel Brennan said the upper sections of the two leaning hexagonal towers appeared “to have minimal practical use and to be primarily ornamental in purpose.” #Open journalism No news is bad news Support The Journal Your contributions will help us continue to deliver the stories that are important to you“This very minor, obscure and esoteric link to Joyce does not justify these extremely large, costly and environmentally unsustainable towers,” said Brennan.

Here's another picture of it. Doesn't look a lot better in this either I don't think. The brief must've been 'Some weird shit please'.

And similar to The Giant's Causeway will it be underwhelming and smaller in reality?

😳

Fascinating looking building. I hope it gets built.

Amazing. Any other day, the government would view the Giants causeway as in another country.

Will take a decade to build with restrictions

Hideous in the picture... hope it’s better in reality
