'Very intimidating': teachers on sexual harassment by pupils

’ve had threats of rape. I’ve had someone say: ‘I’m going to seek out your daughter and rape her.’ You’re called a slag and a slut. Sometimes it’s banter and they all think it’s funny. Sometimes it’s anger directed at you.”

I really do feel this on a personal level. As a 25 year old, female English teacher I have fallen victim to indimidation from male pupils, more often that I’d care to admit considering the short amount of time I have been teaching in a school.

It's time for a real change and the authority of the teachers to be respected

Ahh yes the student has so much power in the teacher student relationship

My lecture to preservice teachers on their legal responsibilities (mandatory reporting & report able conduct) was always followed by one on protective strategy. It's near impossible to prove you didn't do something.

Start handing out detentions, the school should have your back and call the parents in for a chat. I knew 5ft teachers who took no sht from any student. Need to stamp it out before they reach the workforce.
