New South Wales is seeing a rise in rural crime – delivering significant financial blows to farmers' livelihoods during years already made tough by COVID-19 and drought. New research by the University of New England has revealed 80 per cent of New South Wales farmers reported being targeted by criminals.
Crime Stoppers NSW CEO Peter Price commented on the statistics, saying “the people who live in our regional and remote communities around NSW and around Australia have had a really tough time for the last few years, they’ve had to deal with drought, floods, COVID and everything else that can be thrown at them”. “What they don’t need to do is they don’t need to be dealing with adversity around theft.” Between 2015 and 2020 $22.
