Maybe when this is all over, we can address one of the great questions that hangs over responses to the pandemic in the West. It is the question of racism – not just the overt kind, but also the more subtle way that assumptions about ethnic difference shape our collective attitudes. Why, to put it bluntly, have we been so reluctant to learn from the Asian countries that have managed the pandemic best? Because, somehow, they’re not like us? Has it been more important to maintain that distinction than to save our own lives?
Mr_BojanGills ross_irl Because all our resources of humility have been exhausted by the Dublin footballers sweeping up after themselves before leaving the dressing rooms in Croker. Selfish b&&s&&rds
I think the simple answer may be because they have been through it before? SARS...
Fintan the tool talking utter shite, nothing new in that
By ‘Asia’ do you mean communist China? does objecting to the way the CCP responded to the virus by nailing up doors, dragging people into quarantine prisons, forced vaccination, make the west racist?
I'm not gonna pay to read this article, a writer blaming racism among Western society for not dealing with coronavirus better?😂😂😂
Let me guess, because the West is rascist?
Arrogance. Superiority complex. Refusal to accept that Colonial power is over.
That’s exactly China communist party did in past year, many hundred thousands of people dying due to inhumanity ways to crack down wuhan virus and restart propaganda machine to western, how successful we are and how bad you did.
If you ignore a lot of things like human rights by locking down everyone at home, no essential food supplies for months, idiots can lock the virus. Do you wish to be an idiot or a human?
Because for some reason in the west it’s considered racist to close down borders, fantasy to expect some kind of coherent policy on test and trace and madness to have undertaken temp testing to enter public buildings / stores.
From Day 1 my brother in Toronto who was frontline containing SARS there said that the USA would be a disaster. The richest country on the planet which spends more on healthcare than anyone else. The best Trump could do was inflame racists with his Kung Fu flu distraction.
osheaf01 Totally agree. What’s that old saying. Bite your nose off to spite your face. Oh hasn’t it shown how self-centred and selfish the human race have become.
More anti-western racism from Fintan
First thing you have learn is Asia is not a monolith. Asia stretches from Yemen to tundra Russia with huge diversity of people who have nothing common . Iran was disaster and Taiwan a fantastic success . Journalists needs to stop using vast stereotypes
Please note, Asia had some existing immunity due to exposure to SARS Cov2. Their ‘success’ with Covid19 is greatly helped along by their levels of pre-existing immunity and their prior planning for this type of respiratory virus.
