Schools to close if operations affected due to Covid-19, says minister

If there are any positive cases, the district health office will decide if only some classes, certain floors or the entire school should be closed.

Education minister Radzi Md Jidin said that if a Covid-19 case was detected in a school, the district health office would conduct a risk assessment and advise the school accordingly. “On our part, we look at the operational aspect. The PKD may say there is no need to shut a school but if most teachers need to be quarantined, our analysis may show that operational efficiency will be affected.

Previously, the Penang government had suggested that schools with many positive Covid-19 cases be closed and instead implement the home-based online teaching and learning.
