Schools’ safety and government’s self-defeat

task for our governments, even when their primary obligation is to guarantee the security of lives and property of all. School goers, our children of whom we say we will hand over the future, need not only to be educated but also secured in their quest to acquire same else posterity will not be to us.

Whether a school is fenced or not, the fact is that our schools need security. Certainly not the kind of ‘security’ provided by community volunteers armed with sticks against AK-47-carrying bandits. The statement is pathetic. It’s an affirmation of self-defeat for any government to say it cannot secure all schools. It would have been better if the federal government listed the schools they can secure and the ones they can’t, so that we know what to do. As a student, living in fear of being abducted gives me a psychological problem and this has been affecting my academic interest.
