SCHOOLS could stay open for longer or shorten the summer holidays to give disadvantaged kids more time to catch up on learning lost to the lockdown.
His remarks came as the Government today unveiled a £700 million catch up fund for the kids who have missed out the most while schools have been shut.The cash comes on top of a £1 billion pot announced six months ago, and will be used to roll out summer lessons and camps, and for am expansion of the national tutoring programme.
And was repeatedly pressed this morning over whether that could mean extending the school day or shortening the summer break. "The best support we can do is seeing children back in the classroom on March 8 - something all parents want to see, all children want to see, and teachers want to see."
Why don’t the MP’s take a pay cut, work longer hours and stop being delusional. It’s easy to pass the blame on others but not admit to your own failures. Teachers have to classroom manage behaviour/education pupils and parents, I got Covid from school!!

My kids not going school over summer , restrictions are lifted they going see there family give a cuddle to nanna & grandad , have family days out have fun , poor kids been locked up or under restrictions over the last year
On June 21st when all restrictions are lifted will u and all the mps be sat side by side no restrictions, no masks , be back in the house of commons or are we the guinea pigs 1st to see if vaccine has worked

If somebody used their head they might think Saturday schools would be a good option. Simply offer teachers overtime and bring in some students each Saturday morning to catch up. Everybody would be happy with that. All voluntary but teachers would get time and a half.
Teachers are doing a great job, however, I've always said the summer holidays are too long especially for older children, 4 weeks off instead of 6 would be better and maybe take 2 weeks off at October. Just my opinion 🤷

I don’t think that is far. I work in a school & we have been working tirelessly to make sure children are remote learning. I even worked throughout half term to prepare work for this term. Lockdown is so much more harder for teachers.

Teachers have had it cushy. They've been paid throughout the pandemic, had plenty of time off and they still have the cheek to moan about kids going back. If every single workplace behaved like that then the country would come to a standstill. They need to be grateful

We have an international family spanning across three countries. We will use the summer holidays to see them. There is no way we will be playing catch up in the uk then.

Have they asked any of the kids who have completed hours of study in total isolation how they feel about sacrificing their summer holidays when they might have seen their long missed friends how they feel about this? Not to mention the teaching staff who have worked non stop.

All being well this summer could be without restrictions let us enjoy it, let the kids meet up with their friends, and if we can go on holiday then we all don’t want to try and book something at the same time Let’s get this school year out of the way and start a fresh September

I’m a parent & I’m AGAINST a shorter summer break! Teachers have been working throughout & gave up holiday time already, they deserve their break!! MPs should e the ones giving up their summer break!!

I get teachers will be against this as some have worked throughout however part of me thinks that they should also step up to the plate like the rest of the public sector. if your being paid for it why not? Teaching is a calling apparently
