In a statement issued with the agreement of the education partners, including – crucially - the teacher trade unions, the department outlined a template for the real negotiations that will now begin.
Last year, teachers willingly and swiftly stepped outside of their comfort zones; they embraced practices that are ordinarily anathema to them. The ranking of students formed a crucial part of the overall calculated grades process. In the national standardisation process, it was more important than the actual mark a teacher gave a student. The marks could be altered but the ranking could not.It is probably the biggest, and this could well be why the latest statement does not, at any stage, mention the term ‘calculated grades’.
Unfortunately, many of those involved in talks feel that the class of 2021 will now have to wait a little longer for any certainty. They feel this is going to take some more time.

emma_okelly Any mention of junior cert in all this? To have 15 year kids working towards and stressed out about a looming written exam which means very little is, at this point cruel for the students.
