Testing for COVID-19 variant underway at Maple Ridge high school

said in a letter to Garibaldi Secondary families that the school district was told Sunday that an individual who has COVID-19 and was at the school Jan. 18 and 19 is a “close contact to a person in the community who has a variant or type of COVID-19 virus that may spread more easily.”have been identified: One in the United Kingdom last fall, a second in South Africa in October, and a third in Brazil in early January.

“This is being done out of an abundance of caution to make sure that no other staff or students have the variant.” Fraser Health says the Maple Ridge COVID-19 test centre is closed today so staff and students at the school can be tested. Previous appointments have been rescheduled and walk-ins are being redirected to test centres in Mission, Abbotsford and Langley.

Fraser Health said the variant doesn’t seem to cause more severe illness or interfere with the effectiveness of vaccines. Testing letters, Fraser Health says, have been sent to anyone who may have been in contact with the person with COVID-19.“There is no risk of exposure identified for other staff or students at the school.”

Looks like weed and meth combined. No wonder Maple Ridge got it first.
