Legendary storyteller Gcina Mhlope has partnered with the Management College of Southern Africa (Mancosa) to deliver five-minute stories to children during the extended school break.

From now until February 12 the young ones can enjoy Mhlope’s captivating stories on the Mancosa website and social media pages. The stories have a specific focus to Africa and challenge the listener to improve their comprehension skills.“I have specifically chosen stories that will take children’s minds somewhere else during these dark and gloomy days,” she said.

Lockdown must not only be about schoolwork for children. They also need time to set their minds free to imagine, dream and indulge in creativityIn a time when there is little normalcy for both adults and children, keeping the art of storytelling alive is just one way of reminding everyone that we have powerful imaginations.

Professor Zaheer Hamid, academic director and head of the school of education at Mancosa, is proud that the stories provide a different avenue to traditional teaching. He expressed that “lockdown must not only be about schoolwork for children. They also need time to set their minds free to imagine, dream and indulge in creativity.”
