The former president of the nation's largest teachers union is working to lock up support from Republican senators and Hispanic leaders in her bid to be picked as Education secretary, according to officials familiar with the talks.

As a longtime member of the NEA from Texas I had the opportunity to talk with Lily several times when she was NEA secretary. She would be an outstanding Secretary of Education. She has fought for the rights of students & education employees for decades.
