In the row over providing free school meals during holidays, ‘shall we feed children?’ has become a complex question, says Guardian writer Joel Golby

We have a lot to say about eating food right now for a culture whose cuisine essentially boils down to “can I put the word ‘pudding’ on the end of it?” Black pudding. Yorkshire pudding. Steak and kidney pudding. This is a country where we consider the detritus from a deep-fryer as a fun treat that deserves its own name . This is a country where haute cuisine is splaying open a bag of Scampi Fries in front of a warm pint of ale with the hearty offer to “dig in”.

What people fail to remember is that a school dinner at Eton is a 5 course affair served at 7pm and incorporates game and cheese courses. Possibly vintage port.

US/UK, at war against the 'surplus population,' those not of current use (or can easily be replaced) in the capitalist job market.

Who gives a fuck. If people want to support another family go ahead. Many of us don’t.

Where do the Guardian get these hacks from? Is it any wonder their circulation figures are the lowest in the UK.

Pathetic. Try journalism.

The Guardian 'left' is awful. Classism as Liberalism. Much prefer 'sharing a packet of crisps over a warm pint of ale' than read their onanistic word tripe.

Surely it is time to revive this 👇

Utter tosh.

“Over the summer, extending the free school meals scheme cost an estimated £126m (about one-and-a-half Big Ben restorations)”. And yet, there were several MPs very excited about Big Ben - how sick is that?

Christ, it sounds like someone doing a parody of a smug middle class tosser.

Patronising git. Jellied eels and a sprig of white heather for luck might work.

How many children has the Guardian fed? Or does all the profits line the shareholder's pockets

Bangers? Pies? Black pudding? I miss all of those things.

Not the fish and chips.

What rubbish is this now ffs?

Why don't you just get bad teeth in as well just to complete the stereotype?

nice

This is a weird take. Can you not make your (very good) point that feeding children is good and important, without randomly shoehorning in a comment on English food (which can be amazing or...not)? What a way to annoy people for no reason and undermine your point!

that's why you guys colonised half of the world

That sounds like they don't feed children because the food is awful. Which, obviously, isn't the reason.

Funny how Guardian only use the word England when it’s a derogatory article about the country! ScumMedia

Asking the state to steal other people's money isn't virtuous.

Utter bollocks and you know it.

Says a labour biased rag.

Fish and chips thr best 🇬🇧
