I am also not clear. Are these parents already on benefits? Or are parents on benefits excluded and it's for parents who have lost their income because of covid? And aren't they on benefits as a result of losing their job?

There's no such thing as a free lunch because in the end the hardworking taxpayer will pay pick up the tab for Rashford's publicity stunt.
So parents that can afford to feed their kids are going to benefit. I say feed the kids who's parents genuinely can't afford it. rich parents will just get richer if the government cave in to this rich boy trying to earn more brownie points.

I think the problem with this is it will make Conservatives think we can just let the community solve it without any government. It will reinforce their ideas on food poverty notwithstanding the fact not all areas are able to solve food poverty without government aid.
Gov should start a vote. Free school meals for kids, but a rise in everyone's taxes...or no school meals and parents make do with current benefits. Let's see how many people REALLY care about the kids. This money isn't coming from thin air.

There are 70 days of school holidays per year but 104 weekend days. Who is going to feed these kids at the weekends?

Parents feed children. If parents are inadequate then the children are taken into care. Social services, benefits and welfare and the voluntary sector are there for food poverty.
