Hand sanitiser distributed by one of the 11 suppliers on the Department's framework for PPE in schools has been recalled by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine.
The Department of Education is asking schools to check if they have stocks of ViraPro hand sanitiser and cease using it. The Department said schools impacted by this can make local arrangements to purchase replacement stocks of hand sanitiser and maximize the use of hand washing. Any school with difficulty sourcing replacement hand sanitiser should contact the Department's Covid-19 helpline which has been supplied to schools.
"Additional funding will be provided to schools to enable them to purchase the necessary supplies from an alternative supplier," the Department said.
Look up the FDA America..they warned people about these products last june.. What the hell took the Irish government so long to alert their people.. The effects are more severe then what the Irish are saying?
Whoever signed off on this product in the government department for use anywhere should be sacked. I'm sick of hearing , oh we will learn from these mistakes. Make an example and it won't happen again

Oops, did the committee deciding the tender check the specifications in fine detail? virapro sanitizer claims 70% alcohol, not ethanol specifically. In the states, FDA pulled 100s of cheaper methanol containing sanitizers. Q..what did it contain exactly? Education_Ire
no swords, muck, and dirty, lack of hygiene measures
Jesus wept! Would common sense not prevail? Just bring in their own sanitizer for the day or get some locally? Why close down for the full day? The one day they are probably all really looking forward to, dressing up & party games!
Ah the public sector. Screwing up since the pandemic began
WHO set out a formula for hand sanitiser. Was ViraPro made to those guidelines? WHO does not recommend a gel.
Maybe they could go without hand sanitiser for just one day Sending kids home for this is beyond a joke
NormaFoleyTD1 schools are very safe isn’t that what you keep saying, for once in your life admit you’re wrong , nowhere is ‘very safe’ during a pandemic 😡schools should be closed!

We can’t even get this right 😔😔😔😔
Great over here in Lanzarote being part of the 99% wake up people 🐑🐑 rtefakenews
You couldn't make this up, they've supplied hand sanitizer containing methanol (poisonous to humans) instead of ethanol 😔
More shit to contend with,,
Why was it recalled? Why have 11 suppliers? Contracts thrown around like confetti in this country!!
Disgraceful. Shut the schools
They should buy their supplies from AllThingsOffic1 trusted Irish family run company
RTÉ- what the replies already say - WHY You are basically the Dept of Government Limited Information Releases.
Not enough alcohol in the sanitiser? That could be the only reason
Ooo rte save more!
What is the reason for the recall is it that the alcohol content is too low or is it toxic? Is the same hand sanitiser used in nursing homes?
Why is it being recalled?
Bulshit this is a Blue flag an exuse to close the schools and make government look like they were never wrong in allowing schools to remain open.
Its the brain washing not the hand washing that is the greater problem.
Why was it recalled?
