A former school teacher from Lismore says he was the victim of an extortion racket after serving time in a Cambodian jail charged with indecently assaulting boys.A former Australian teacher has arrived in Sydney after serving 461 days in a Cambodian prison on indecent assault charges

Garry Mulroy, 64, landed in Sydney yesterday after spending 461 days in prison in Siem Reap province in Cambodia's north-west. Mr Mulroy's lawyer argued the charges were an extortion attempt, and the children's police interviews were done without a parent or lawyer present. Upon retiring from teaching in Australia, he said he had decided to try to set up a not-for-profit school and cultural learning centre in Cambodia.

The 64-year-old said he believed he was the victim of an extortion attempt after raising concerns about the behaviour of some NGO staff.
