The Victorian government has announced a $250 million investment to recruit and deploy over 4,000 tutors in 2021 as part of an initiative to assist children whose education was most disadvantaged due to mandated coronavirus lockdowns.

13/10/2020 Education Minister James Merlino said the funding support would be made available to all government schools all eligible non-government schools.

"We know the vast majority of our kids spent term two and term three studying remotely and we know that whilst many thrived in that environment, we know that many struggled, particularly disadvantaged students," he said. "We expect 80 per cent of those will be women - this is over and above the existing workforce."
