SINGAPORE — For the whole of Sunday , Singapore national football captain Hariss Harun teased about an upcoming career development, cryptically saying on social media, “Coventry here I come.”

Is the 29-year-old Johor Darul Ta’zim stalwart joining English Championship club Coventry City? Would he be able to get a work permit to play in England? Plenty of lively speculation ensued among Singapore football fans on social media. On Monday, Hariss finally revealed his plan: he has been offered a sports excellence education scholarship by PSB Academy to pursue a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree in business and marketing with Coventry University.

He will continue to play for JDT in the Malaysian Super League, thanks to a flexible lesson arrangement. “I am almost peaking in my football career and I hope to play for many more years, but I have to prepare for life after sports,” Hariss wrote on social media on Monday.Hariss enjoyed two successful spells with JDT, the first from 2014 to 2016, and then from 2018 until now. He has won the Malaysian Super League in each of his six seasons with the club, and also helped them clinch the AFC Cup in 2015.
