And yet, and yet, and yet. Studying English taught me about the world, about human nature, discipline, truthfulness, precision, history, and above all, the importance of empathy. It taught me that the best word is a simple one, and a shorter sentence is always best. It taught me not to believe what you read in newspapers, or magazines – even this one! – but to consider the possibility you are being manipulated, or lied to.
