Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney has agreed to forgo $1.25 million in scheduled compensation due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s financial impact on the university and its athletics department, according to an agreement obtained by USA TODAY Sports on Friday.
Taken together, the reductions represent a decrease of just over 13% of the $9.375 million that Swinney was due to make during the university’s 2021 fiscal year, which ends June 30. In April 2019, he and the university agreed to a 10-year contract that had been worth at least $93 million, with $50 million guaranteed. During his 2020 contract year, which ends Dec. 31, he is due to make $8.25 million.
