SANDAKAN: In view of the recent Covid-19 spike in Sabah, an NGO has urged the state Education Department to temporarily close schools in the east coast districts of Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.

Pembela Malaysia president Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Jeffry Haji Rosman said the recent surge in Covid-19 cases was worrying with Tawau recording the highest number of cases linked to the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster.

“The state education director should act fast and order the temporary closure of schools in the east coast to break the chain of the infection and also for schools to be disinfected by the Health Ministry, ” he said. He also called on all political parties to stop their ceramah and house-to-house campaigning to prevent the spread of the disease, saying candidates were not spared from infection.Article type: free
