Do too many people now go to university? And shouldn’t manual work and care work be more valued? A timely but flawed polemic

is one of the central problems of communitarian philosophy: how to distribute the social conditions of esteem and self-esteem more equally.expends more time and effort on dismantling the existing hierarchy of esteem than it does on constructing a new one. The problem facing societies such as Britain’s, Goodhart argues, is that they have become in thrall to a single metric of achievement – academic tests.

yes so absolutely, degrees are often overrated and is difficult to find proper work without a degree

The truth is manual labour is needed now and was needed centuries ago when only a few had the possibility to further their studies/get ahead. There are too many of the same & these younger generations are now stuck.
