The chairman of the University of Jos branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, , Dr. Lazarus Maigoro, on Saturday explained that the management of the Institution has not discussed the issue of reopening of the university and level of readiness with the Union.
The chairman, who outlined the consequences of reopening the universities, noted that “there is a lack of classrooms to take care of social distancing as contained in the COVID-19 guidelines, as most of the lecturers are within the vulnerable age and therefore will be risking their lives. Also, he said that “the management of the university has not discussed the issue of reopening the university and their level of readiness with us, so I won’t be able to say in clear terms what they have done so far. Only the Vice-Chancellor can answer that for now.”
The Nation reports that Bauchi and Jos Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities had last week warned the Federal Government against reopening universities without fully equipping them against COVID-19.
