Reporter was covering controversial new policy reducing use of Mongolian language in education

In this image made from video footage by Nure Zhang, parents confront authorities outside a school in Tongliao in Northwestern China's Inner Mongolia region. An American newspaper says one of its journalists was detained and then expelled from China’s Inner Mongolia region while covering tensions over a new policy that reduces the use of the Mongolian language in education.

The incident comes amid broader tensions between the U.S. and China over journalists stationed in each other’s country. The reporter was surrounded by plain clothes men at a school in Hohhot, the region’s capital, and put into a police car to be taken to a police station, according to the account. It says she was not allowed to call the U.S. Embassy.

Inner Mongolia is a region of 25 million people that borders the country of Mongolia to the north. About 17% of the population is ethnic Mongolian while the Han make up 79%.Just before the new school year started this week, authorities announced changes for Mongolian-medium schools. Literature classes for elementary and middle school students will switch to a national textbook and instruction in Mandarin Chinese, and some other courses would follow in the coming two years.

Separately, the U.S. has designated the American operations of several Chinese state media as foreign missions this year and put a cap on the number of visas for some, forcing them to reduce the size of their Chinese staff.

Mongolians are not Chinese, there is no point for them to be forced to learn Putonghua and write Chinese characters only. This is racism. Racism StandWithMongolians AllLivesMatter

another cultural genocide by China CCP. This time Mongolia & Mongolianlanguage

The Chinese government was afraid that world would know their evil deeds, and once again chased journalists away🤷

Not a good sign. May signal some violence to happen.

Here in PG BC officer's Clark and Clarke along with their supervisor say that Angel Wesley kidnapping our daughter was not a crime. That's how the law works in Prince George BC. She will NOT face any charges for kidnapping. Why?

CCPChina fear the truth from being revealed Just like how they warn the journalists in HongKong could violate NationalSecurityLaw when reporting HKPoliceBrutality

They fear of the reporters disclosing some human violation act, like TiananmenSquareMassacre in the past. We must pay more attention to it. CCP_is_terrorist

Poor people in Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong and Mongolia.

CCP don’t want the truth to be reported to the world. They are suppression the freedom of speech, freedom of press and publication. CCP is the enemy of the free world!

Only propaganda is allowed in China

Barbaric characteristic of CCP won't change to expel or even kill anyone while they have to keep CCP's own stability! CCP is hopeless, please get it out of the earth.

It’s obvious that ccp is trying to destroy the local language in Inner Mongolia. It is actually violating people’s freedom. It is understandable for why people would fight against ccp’s tyranny. Hope the entire world can concern about the human rights issues in Inner Mongolia!

Yeh, right, “reporters” that only tried to poke their nose around to make some untrue things to demonize another country

CCP is trying to hide solid evidences of oppression in South (inner) Mongolia. Same tactics were applied in HK and other parts of China.

In Fact, China Government using their 'policy' to control their language and their culture. CCPLiedChineseDied

freedom of press is fake in China

Clearly China doesn’t want you to know what’s happening inside, which may become the New Xinjiang (East Turkistan), cultural invasion then genocide.

The journalists should be protected and they have every right to reveal the truth, whether they make you look bad or not.

There's no press freedom in China because the totalitarian regime don't want their outrageous oppression being disclosed. Chinazi

China obscures every problem erupted in China, including pandemic, genocide in Xinjiang and crackdown on Mongolian. Press freedom isn't guaranteed.
