Shadow Education Minister tanya_plibersek says the coronavirus argument shouldn’t descend into a competition between the economy and health.

Shadow Education Minister Tanya Plibersek says the coronavirus argument shouldn’t descend into a competition between the economy and health. It comes as both Western Australia and Queensland remain steadfast in their approach to keep their respective borders closed. The Queensland government have declared it won’t reopen the border with New South Wales until its southern neighbour goes a month without community transmission.

However, many are arguing this response is having a detrimental effect on businesses especially in border towns. “Premiers are doing what they’re doing on the best advice they’ve got,” Ms Plibersek told Sky News host Alan Jones. “I don’t think we should try and make this a competition between the economy and health”. Liberal Senator Claire Chandler though said more consideration should be given to small businesses whose “trade is reliant in many cases on open borders”.

tanya_plibersek Well Sweden suggests they go hand in hand. Sweden stayed open domestically, had much higher death and infection rates yet still has higher unemployment and a bigger GDP loss than her Nordic neighbours or Australia.

tanya_plibersek Plibersek is so ignorant. She summarily ignores the hundreds of thousands of lost jobs, lost businesses, empty holiday apartments, closed tourist businesses. No wonder her mob was not elected.

tanya_plibersek It was always a competition between economy and health.

tanya_plibersek Tanya better tell her leader.

tanya_plibersek Long term they are one and the same. As soon as we're a 3rd world country there won't be any health. Apart for government staff of course who are still being paid. Get yourself a Govt job asap if you want a financial future!!!!!
