"Children have missed school and all of the social benefits that it brings," says Dr O'Hare, who works with the local education authority in Gloucestershire and at the University of Bristol.
Another educational psychologist, Will Shield, based at the University of Exeter, says children should be told that it's"absolutely ok to be concerned" about going back and to talk about any particular worries. Friendship groups could have changed and there might be anxiety about falling behind with school work after so much missed time, he says,
But Dr O'Hare says not to predict or expect problems, because the biggest reaction might be about seeing friends again."The conversation can also be positive. What are they looking forward to? Who are they looking forward to seeing? I think it's about trying to promote that sense of excitement," he says.
What nerves? Children are the least affected by this exaggerated virus and the only children to die have had underlying conditions and even that number is extremely small. This is ridiculous. Ive not heard from 1 parents who does want their child back in school after 5 months.
My advice to year seven boys: Ingratiate yourselves with the group of renegade sixth form girls - You know the ones, they share a pack of 20 benson & hedges gold, dare to cross the perimeter during break, give the history teacher serious attitude and disrupt assembly. 👍
White children will be a minority in British schools before long. Maybe that is why they are nervous?
after this restart with no vaccine, the parents of the first kid to die of covid should be allowed to jump up and down on the neck of whichever member of the government they choose
