We’d like to hear from teachers and parents about how they felt returning to school amid the coronavirus pandemic

With new measures including hand-washing routines, ‘bubble’ student groups, and even coronavirus behavioural codes, the majority of pupils in England returned to school today for the start of the new academic year.

My 7 year old son goes back today - he’s very excited. He had the benefit of a couple of weeks back in class before the summer holiday, so knows how things will be a little different, but he’s not fazed by it.

Many children not doing any school work in lockdown, and putting on weight. Children from vulnerable backgrounds weren’t going in when they should have been. Risk to children extremely low, and lower risk of passing on. Looking like stopping schools did far more harm than good.

My daughter isn't returning to school, she's starting. This is always an emotional time for parents and children, but now we're torn between wanting her to start her formal education and wanting to keep her safe. The Govt haven't done enough to reassure us we can do both

I can tell you it should only happen when scientists say it's safe for them to do so...

We're not, because the BMJ puts all classroom scenarios in the high risk category, even with masks all day, and our family circumstances mean we can't risk it. We are desperately sad about being forced into this choice by the government's failures on testing and tracing.
