Universities reopening across the country have struggled to contain the climbing number of Covid-19 infectionsspoiling carefully designed plans to safely bring students back to the classroom. School officials have urged students to maintain social distancing practices as health officials trace clusters of cases to off-campus gatherings. Infectious disease experts say the situation isn't surprising.
Officials at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Syracuse University and Penn State University have issued similar warnings to students who have gathered on and off campus. The University of Connecticutof their dorms after they hosted an unapproved gathering, saying they didn't adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Garcia, who flew to the university in South Bend, Indiana, and made frequent visits to nearby stores for dorm supplies, is now crafting his possible return home. If the coronavirus is widespread, Garcia said he's concerned about the threat students would pose if told to go home. "I knew that there was a big possibility for us to move out sometime this semester, so I tried to pack as light as possible," she said. "I just didn't anticipate moving out this early.""Part of the college experience is the social experience. I mean, it's not just about the the education," said Dr. Carlos del Rio, a professor at the Emory University School of Medicine who specializes in infectious diseases.
Even in states such as New York, which has been able to effectively control Covid-19 transmission for months, school officials face uncertainties with reopening universities, said Ravina Kullar, an adjunct faculty member at the University of California Los Angeles and a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America.
Surprised? What are they actually teaching at this college?
2% positives. Not an emergency folks
300 cases, but how many severe, how many moderate, and how many asymptomatic, in this group of healthy young college students? Perhaps these case clusters in this very low risk group, isolated on campus, is a win for herd immunity? The simplistic coverage helps none...
“How could we have ever known?”
Yeah, you'd think somebody with a college education could've predicted this.🤣
Sending young healthy students home to their older parents has to be the epitome of bad ideas
What was the surprise This is known. The only surprise is the refusal to heed the warnings!

So sad that we aren’t listening to real science in this country we are a fraud
2% of the student population at Notre Dame and the sky is falling. Never mind the fact that the students are at very low risk of actually being sick
It's from the cold virus family, it spreads.
There were more parties but these students didn't get the invite.
May I state the obvious? Spending $30K-60K a year on a student who doesn't realize this is a waste of money.
dellastreet19 We are so stupid
Seriously, colleges need to stop admitting freshmen who cheat on their SATs! It's really screwing up America.
I don’t know why we expect young people to be beacons of intelligence when it comes to practicing social distancing and wearing masks. They’re at an age when rebellion and independence rule their thinking.
They all got a cold, oh no
It was foreseen by absolutely everyone taking things seriously!! FreeDump idiots at the highest levels.
Meaningless scare porn. Hospitalizations would be what you need to evauate
