... [+]Conscious consumerism is not just about eating vegan burgers, it’s about wearing vegan fur. At least that’s the thesis for loud cruelty-free fur winter coat company Apparis, which just raised $3 million to expand their vegan clothes online within the U.S. and internationally.
Currently, stockists include Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Intermix and others—as wholesale accounted for 60% of Apparis’ $7.3 million 2019 revenue. The company, which expects to make more than that in 2020, will use the $3 million to launch the line in 20 European retailers across twelve countries spanning from France to Croatia.
Yet, A multinational brand was a pipe-dream for cofounders Lauren Nouchi, 29 and Amelie Brick, 37 who started selling their vegan wares in 2017 at a Brooklyn, New York popup after forming a friendship seven years earlier as Boston residents from the same French town. In early 2018, Bloomingdale’s requested a peek at the brand’s fall collection—a major goal for most fashion brands—but Nouchi and Brick had yet to design a collection.
