Varsity act still relevant but can be improved, says minister

Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad says the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 has been amended seven times since it was gazetted in 1971, the last being in 2019. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, August 25, 2020.

THE Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 is still relevant in enforcing its functions, said Higher Education Minister Dr Noraini Ahmad. However, she said the ministry was always open to suggestions and views to improve the existing act, including empowering the UUCA technical committee comprising legal experts, academics and non-academics from public and private universities, as well as students and alumni.
