Victorian schools are on track to reopen in term four as the number of new cases of COVID-19 falls

But Stephen Duckett, health program director at the Grattan Institute, warned that any reopening of schools while the virus was still circulating in the community would “inevitably” lead to new outbreaks.

“We have to assume that if all the schools go back before the virus is eliminated there will be an outbreak in a school,” he said. “Schools, especially senior schools, are places where transmissions can occur,” Dr Duckett said. “And so while we have active cases in Victoria we should not be opening those schools.”

It could include a tutor working with a group of four or five students whose learning is at a similar level, in sessions of 30 to 40 minutes, three times a week.

Follow the science, take necessary precautions and progress. It will never be 100% safe, nothing in the world is. That said, quite happy to be home with my kids at the moment.

Understand long time remote learning gets kids tired. But Social distancing not possible at school. Cluster cases happened at some school. School not a safe place at all. Kids are too close to each other, wearing mask won’t work for long time contact, and they have to talk.

Not sure where this small group tutoring $$ is coming from Equity funding of 6k isn’t going to pay for much especially if already spent!

Yay can't wait

You watch em all come out of the wood work - “it’s too early” “it’s not safe”

Schools have been ‘open’ the whole time.

Nope won't be sending my child back 2 school after she was identified as a close contact by DHHS at school.Won't be thru that again. No guarentee that kids and staff are safe to return and then to self isolate again. With special needs kids it's hard. 😬

Really? Isn’t it a bit early to say? If daily numbers still in double figures most staff, students and parents won’t want to return.

Dan stands up every day , take’s question and takes action when required

JamesMerlinoMP how much damage has this government brought upon our children

This is mind control. They get the word “traced” engraved in your mind so then they can use it and it means nothing. I don’t know about you but I’m fine thanks.

They should be open now. Does Merlino want to be thanked for “allowing” kids back to school.

School expulsion rates plunge after students gain new power to appealThe number of students expelled from Victorian government schools has plunged by more than a third in just two years after students and parents were given more power of appeal. Makes sense as no one has been at school for 6 months The question is has this made schools a more unsafe place to be for children and staff? Accountability needs to cut both ways. Shame they're not allowed to actually go to school though
