The phased reopening of Ireland's schools is beginning this morning after more than five months of disruption.
St Leo's, like other second level schools, is prioritising first year students, with sixth year pupils the next group to come back.Most have been dramatically reconfigured in an attempt to ensure a safe environment for students and staff, with several hygiene measures in place. The union's head of education, Andy Pike, said workers had been told they must work in classrooms without any social distancing, despite clear evidence that they are at high risk if they contract Covid-19.Children with 'sniffles' can go to school once 'otherwise well' - GPs
The union said it has written to Minister for Education Norma Foley to say that staff in the schools sector are most at risk, but are getting the least protection.
