Government wants schools open, for children's wellbeing and benefit to the economy. By saying masks must be used they worry the 'fear level' would remain. At least give staff, and pupils the option to use them. They do offer a line of defence but still many people ignoring rules.

If they have to wear a mask in school then they would have to take a supply of masks with them. Once you take a mask off it should be disposed of and not put back on. This is very unhygienic and spreads germs. What about asthmatic children, they shouldn't wear one. Bullying?

Given the age range of secondary students it makes sense that students and staff wear masks, especially the staff who have previously been identified as being significantly clinically vulnerable and who are no longer shielding.
