A security guard who worked at the Rydges quarantine hotel in Melbourne said he delivered food while he was positive with COVID-19.
The guard, whose identity has been suppressed by the inquiry, claims he was given no training in infection control and was told to wear the same gloves and mask for an entire shift. He contracted COVID-19.He was then contacted by the Department of Health and Human Services and told to isolate with his housemates at home.
Let's stay with Victoria's hotel quarantine inquiry for a moment, where a security guard is giving shocking evidence and painting a startlingly clear picture of how COVID-19 spread from the hotels into the community, sparking the state's deadly second wave. "I noticed some of the other guards were sniffing, but I thought that was because it was a cold night," the guard said in his statement tendered to the inquiry on Monday.
