Navy woollen blazers, striped ties, grey trousers and blue checked dresses – already mothballed during weeks of remote learning – will be swapped out for casual polos, shorts and compression tights at Kingswood College, a 130-year-old Anglican school.

It is already shaping up that way at Kingswood College, a 130-year-old Uniting Church school in Box Hill, which will ditch its longstanding uniform next year and replace it with activewear.

“I think what we’re doing is saying, what’s the most important thing here, the health and wellbeing and flourishing of young people, or is it them being able to look the same as their grandparents looked?” Ms Lenders said low activity levels among schoolchildren, combined with a rise in screen time, was a recipe for poor mental health and poor fitness.

That’s a real shame. I always wore a blazer at public school and whilst the rule could be annoying at times like in warm weather, it gave a sense of pride and belonging. Great idea to encourage kids to get more active . Never understood why we dress kids up like little adults Before some marketing fashionista got hold of it, activewear was called a daggy tracksuit
