A fire, believed to have been caused by a faulty air conditioning system, occurred at the rooftop of the Finster Building of the Ateneo de Davao University Friday evening, August 21, 2020. Fire Insp. Richard Quiboquibo, station commander of the Bangoy Fire Station and Chief of Operations of the Davao City Fire District, said they initially received a report of a “building on fire” on the seventh floor of the school building at around 8:40 p.m.

Quiboquibo said “within three minutes” the responders arrived in the area and proceeded to the rooftop where smoke was seen.Based on their initial information, he said the electrical ignition occurred in the building’s air conditioning system on the rooftop. He said they have coordinated with Davao Light and Power Company to turn off the electricity connection in the area.He said this would lead to short circuits and electrical ignition.Quiboquibo said the cost of damage was estimated at P30,000.
