Opinion | Suzan Song: You can't scold college kids into social distancing. Here's what you can do. - NBCNewsTHINK

Once we as adults have reminded ourselves of our own youth, we can, from a place of empathy, listen to the young people in our lives to understand, not to judge, them. When young people talk about the party they went to where they didn't wear a mask, listen to understand that it's likely that there were emotions motivating their decision — feeling left out, embarrassed or frustrated that they would have to take precautions.

Once we understand the emotions driving young people's actions, we can then help strengthen their prefrontal cortex skills by engaging in more realistic discussions."Yes, you really want to party with your friends. You will see many who won't wear masks, leaving you feeling like an outcast or questioning yourself. It doesn't feel fair.

THINK What you should do is give them absolutely no supports or safety net so they are forced to go work shitty retail jobs where they get exposed to all kinds of aggressively ignorant assholes who refuse to take any covid precautions

THINK Close the school. This will never end and more people will die if students, teachers, staff and parents try to beat the odds. Stay home!! Stop being selfish. Everyone's lives are on hold and theirs should be too.

THINK Also, as Nate Silver wrote, the colleges are basically doing a bait-and-switch. Getting kids on campus, making them pay for being there, and then going nuts when kids do what the administrators knew they would do, and then switching to online learning without refunds.

THINK Maybe you could whip their Asses. A lot of them need it Anyway.

THINK * 'in Mississippi, nearly half of reopened schools have cases of COVID-19 (in 39 counties).' * 'The University of Notre Dame shifted back to online classesafter 80 of 419 students tested positive.' covid19

THINK Useless article... here is reality.

THINK They will only change when they SEE their friends and family get sick and/or die because of what THEY have done. Without that direct connection they will continue to see themselves as invincible and immune. Bring in real people, real situations and perhaps it will click.

THINK

THINK Unrealistic to think individual counseling of every college student by parents will avoid transmission of this virus within groups of thousands of students gathered on college campuses. That’s basically what this article recommends. Like throwing pebbles at an angry ocean.

THINK Fuck them, absolutely garbage humans. Lock them away until they are 25, it’s for the good of humanity.
