In response to those concerns, the province said boards can access $500 million of their own savings to achieve physical distancing in classrooms. The total number of cases now stands at 40,870, which includes 2,793 deaths and 37,126 cases marked as resolved.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says the “uptick” in cases is due to increases in Peel Region, Toronto and Windsor-Essex. She said 27 of Ontario’s 34 public health regions reported five or fewer cases, while 16 reported no new cases.Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe defended his government's approach to school reopening after criticism from some parents, teachers and doctors.
If Kathleen Wynne proposed the same plan she would be hailed a hero
It's not 'politics', it's 'representing parents' and teachers' concerns when your government won't.'
0 deaths of anyone under 19 in Canada. Handful around the world. Very very low risk for kids. Send them back to school and stop living in fear!
Ford is correct.
Of course they are. And so is fordnation And the kids pay the price.
Yeah, those damn teachers with their political opinion that putting 20+ tiny germ machines into a poorly ventilated area during a deadly respiratory pandemic is a not-so-great action plan
The demands are for students safety. Not more money for teachers, not hard to see
D16OSSTF Sflecce osstf etfopresident why are parents being forced to decide their own and kids fate without a tour of the assigned classroom? Stand on the space before signing up. Use your wedding venue mentality and mother of the bride muscle.
What a ‘nit’. Isnt that what unions do ... play politics?
He's right.
Shouldn't the teachers unions be given equal time and exposure to respond? This certainly seems like very biased reporting. DTCochrane
I’m sure it’s the unions that caused Covid too. Why are there limits at restaurants? But not at a school? Why is Wonderland not open but schools Are? We just want the lower class capacity to ensure our safety and the safety of our families. Aren’t we entitled to at least that?
They are.
It’s not about politics! It’s about safety! Mr. Ford, I thought you had actually had some sort of epiphany and turned into a real leader at the beginning of this Covid crisis. Clearly I was wrong. Unbelievable!
Playing politics would be building a $5.5 billion subway instead of ensuring schools can open safely. Followed by blaming others for policy short comings. Can’t think of a party or leader that would do that tho. 🤦♂️ JeffYurekMPP fordnation Sflecce FireLecce
Of course they arr. Its always about the teacher's union
What does Dougie plan to do if cases rise sharply?
Here we go again, Tories fighting with unions!
They’re concerned about the teachers and the kids. Come up woth a real plan fordnation .. this is just terrifying
Defund unions!!!! Give us our money back and we’ll take care of it ourselves 👎🏾🇨🇦
Not wanting to die is not 'playing politics'
Playing politics? They are trying to protect their children from a government that cares more about the economy than public health! I would not trust a conservative to walk my dog. LiarsAndThieves
A politician out to destroy this union accuses them being political... the audacity but then we are talking about a Con leader.
Pay walled but assuming he’s talking about the hilariously stupid radio ads and social backlash campaigns, he’s right. The kids need a school year so either accept this reality or let’s see your master plan that solves the problem of his plan.
Osnt that what he did when he cancelled the Autism funds?
Stop the madness, make it an essential service then you can tell them whatever you want, they get all the perks whether their essential or not
We see through Ford.
March-August: No timely or meaningful consultation. June: 228 plans mandated (76 boards x 3). July: Ford nixes 'closed Wed for cleaning' plan -227 to go. August: back to 76 plans but Ford nixes 'smaller-class-size' plan -75 to go. What bright ideas has Ford or Lecce contributed?
A SafeSeptember Premier. That's what everyone wants. Stop the politics and provide the funding for a SafeSeptemberON onpoli onted
Screw you Ford! You’re playing fast and loose with Ontarians lives while passing the buck.
The Premier doesn't have to accuse them. Its right there front and centre for all to see. Unhappy with losing out on their lastest strike, the zealots in the union are at it again threatening and Sabre rattling.
He knows he’s a politician right? And that the decisions he makes are political, by definition?
Rich coming from fordnation given he kissed their arse in the first place when he could have made distance learning the only option and redirected all the resources to making it financially feasible for parents. He chose to protect an antiquated system instead of students
So obvious .. the character of [most] of these PPL exposed who are with children all day ..ugh Are there choices for PPL to get away from these School Board Radicals & send kids to schools with PPL who care abt kids & put kids first? canada OnPoli
Don't get all wound up people, you could make up any plan, no matter what, school won't last 2 months.
Lecce mandated 228 plans in June.... In July Ford nixed the 'closed Wed for cleaning' plan. In August Lecce went back to 76 only. Doug nixed the 'reduced-class-size' plan. Down to 75 and killed the TDSB proposed model. Yet the union and teachers are at fault? Whomp Whomp...
Teachers do not have children's best interest at heart - they never did. How can I prove this claim? Instead of advocating for children and demanding normal school opening without social distancing and masks - teachers are promoting child abuse.
I called it ...Said that in May. Time to rid the unions... Let them walk out and we can just scab new hires and continue working without the Karens. They can cry on the sidewalk for the year with cardboard cry signs.
Ah Dougie back to his old ways...
