Parents of an Ohio 6-year-old were told that their son’s locks, a natural hairstyle for Black people, were not allowed at the school.

The 6-year-old has dreadlocks. When his hair is wet and he pulls on it, it comes down to about his eyes.

“[Asten] looks in the mirror every single day and tells me how long his hair has grown,” Christina Johnson said.Officials at his school want the opposite. Zion Temple Christian Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio told the Johnsons that locks, a natural hairstyle for Black people, are not allowed at the school, Christina Johnson said, even though Asten was enrolled and wore the style last year.

Their parents had to decide: comply with the school’s order or look elsewhere. They chose the latter.“What’s disheartening about Zion Temple is it’s in the middle of a Black community, and it’s a predominantly Black school,” Christina Johnson said. “How can you not accept your own people?”An amendment to Cincinnati's anti-bias law, bans discrimination based on natural hair. But the law exempts religious groups.

Ridiculous,He looks perfect

Stop fighting to give your kids to those devils to kill them we need to create our own schools where our children can properly learn . Stop sending to to be constantly brain washed with lies. From those devils books.

Sometimes the rules make no sense at all. Hang in there

It’s a private school. Our wouldn’t allow “rat tails”. Follow the rules or leave. Pretty simple concept. You’re not special.

This is a private school. Get the other families to vote with their dollar to end this racism.

When will racism stop 🛑 in our school system. And society and our lives. I’m sorry your son has To deal with that.

I'm all for this. Jesus would NEVER be allowed in one of my golf clubs, with his long, scraggly hair. SAD!!!

School management must be replaced.

Follow the rules or bounce.

Administration of the school have to be Democrats.

Fake divisive news. There is nothing wrong with the “Natural Hairstyle” it’s the length. My very white child was also required to cut his hair because of its length. Don’t send your child to a private school it you can’t follow the same rules as everyone else.

This is a way to attack private schools to protect failing public schools. If these parents don't like the rules they should go to a different public school. They didn't target this boy because he's black. They have a rule about hair length for boys.

In my country we have never heard of Hair Discrimanation in schools....

my son had long hair when he was a little kid but I washed his hair every night, does she do the same

Time to ban Hair Discrimination like in CA, NY, NJ and VA. Not the first time this has happened in Ohio, not the last...this happens across the U.S. and won’t stop unless it’s illegal.

Kind of like playing for the Yankees

Just wrong.

so what its the same as being forced to wear a mask

Haven’t we gotten past this yet? It’s discrimination.

Stop putting your children in schools with white children they don't fit in put them in school with black children they will be happier, do y'all understand me, y'all need to get your head straightened out, y'all been crazy a long time. It's time now to change.

That's why they have rules if you don't like it go somewhere else which they did. This has nothing to do with being black but the FakeNewsMedia want to keep throwing gas on the fire

I’m all for blm but it’s a private school. Give him a fade and focus on learning jfc

I would encourage the parent to fight it, BUT keep in mind the the whole idea of it being a private school. Sort of like a grocery store telling you to wear a mask. It is their right. If you don’t like it, don’t shop their.

JFC. Ohio. Is anything good about that state? 🥴

Some things I’ll never understand. I get looking professional and “kept up” BUT we as black people have textured hair. How does a dress code only accommodate the texture of hair that is pressed, smooth, fine, pulled back in a slick bun/ponytail?

Oh good, it’s been too long since we heard about someone not wanting to follow the rules of a private school.

Parents of an Ohio 6-year-old were told that their son’s locks, a natural hairstyle for people, were not allowed at the school.

That’s messed up. Try doing natural hair for a kid in the morning everyday. Putting it up, braiding or down in locks is the easiest way to go. Guarantee white girls are allowed to wear French braids. And does hairstyle make you a better Christian?

Why can’t parents and kids follow or try and adhere to the school rules. If you don’t like the policy you can always send your child to another school or home school. There are options.

Funny. White people face similar issues regarding hairstyles and dress codes at certain schools.

Was the smell affecting others from learning?

Private school, dress codes. What’s the problem. You can send your child to another school.

We passed a state law here to stop that drama about people 😭 about hairstyles and wear your hair how it suits you.

Hey. I am single. I am alone in my home. I need a boyfriend 😍 boyes follow me now.

Deeply structured racism. Sigh!
